Researchers at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center Neurophysics Laboratory are seeking healthy, normal volunteers for standard comparison with alcoholism subjects. The study will investigate changes in brain chemistry associated with cognitive impairment (for example the inability to solve problems) in some alcoholics. Testing includes paper and pencil tests (neuropsychological testing) and magnetic resonance brain imaging (MRI). To be eligible, you must be healthy, between the ages of 25 and 55, weigh less than 250 pounds, and not have metal in your body. Volunteers will be paid up to $180 for about 8 hours of their time. To find out if you qualify, call 412-967-6508 between the hours of 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. or send an e-mail to marshmanh@upmc.edu. Subjects will receive no drugs or alcohol during their participation in this study.
